I’ve been in technology my whole working life - which now adds up to over 28 years worth of experience…
During that time, I’ve been in most roles, from development to project management, pre-sales to consultancy, being one of the troops, the big boss, and everywhere in-between. I’ve always retained some element of hands on work, and hence I always consider myself a developer at heart.
I’m driven by doing what needs done however, and so naturally find my niche wherever I’m working.
When I was freelancing I needed an identity (and a domain name). I wanted something short, and which didn’t have obvious meaning. I was working on portal solutions at the time, and so browsing my thesaurus I came upon these entries (amongst many others!):
portal [ por·tal | \ ˈpȯr-tᵊl ]
nounBeginning
The beginning of an event or process is the first part of it.Opening
An opening is a hole or empty space through which things or people can pass.Edge
The edge of something is the place or line where it stops, or the part of it that is furthest from the middle.
By choosing Beginning, Opening and Edge I found an brand name that had hidden meaning and satisfied my need for neatness and symmetry. A brand was born.
Though I now longer operate under the brand, it has great nostalgia for me, and hence it’s my personal domain.
